Brenntag's Digital Transformation Supported by Root3
Brenntag's Transformation
When asked what Brenntag does, Jacob Lindberg (Senior Director of Global IT Services & Operations) responds that it’s not so much about what Brenntag does, but rather about the transformation the company is currently undergoing. “Over the past five years, we’ve been transforming from a traditional company into a digital one. We used to be decentralized, with the corresponding decentralized reporting tools. We’ve now increasingly been looking at how different divisions can work together to serve the same customer in the EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) more synergistically. We’ve also appointed a Chief Transformation Officer, and our company’s focus is shifting toward data. We have an enormous amount of data, and we can use AI and machine learning to leverage that data for the benefit of our customers.” Brenntag has therefore also launched a “Digital Office” for data analytics, which is physically located in Amsterdam. The company has brought many new employees on board to fill these new “digital roles.”
Setting Up the Digital Office with Root3
“It turned out that machine learning and AI work better on Apple,” Jacob continues. “That’s why we set up the Digital Office with Apple devices. But managing them—that was something our internal IT department wasn’t familiar with. So we asked around: ‘Does anyone know a company that can handle this well?’ A colleague from the Amsterdam office then suggested Root3.”
Communication, Collaboration, and Peace of Mind
David M. Vig (Senior Manager, Client Services & CSD) continues: “We had an introductory meeting with Root3, and we were immediately sold on them. We did look at a few other options, but Root3 is truly an Apple expert and offered us the best solution with Jamf.” Brenntag has been using the Apple Managed Services solution since 2022, which includes first-level support and, among other things, the App Catalog that keeps all apps up to date. It started with 70 devices back then and has since grown to around 100. “We’re satisfied with how our IT department collaborates with Root3. We communicate with each other via project management tools, emails, various meetings, and the QBR, where we discuss our progress. It’s reassuring to know that workplace management is in good hands at Root3, because we simply don’t have the specific expertise for this internally.” Jacob agrees; for him, too, the collaboration with Root3 is going as planned. What the future holds is, in his view, an interesting question at the moment and difficult to predict given all the current developments. He does foresee that Brenntag and the Digital Office will continue to grow, and if that continues under the current structure, it will certainly happen in collaboration with Root3.
