Patch Management

Patch Management

Keep operating systems and applications up to date and address vulnerabilities in a targeted manner.

Delaying updates is a security risk

Applications and operating systems are constantly being updated. New versions include not only features and improvements, but also fixes for security issues.

In practice, updates are often postponed. Employees don’t want to interrupt their work, and IT teams lack the capacity to manually update applications and devices. As a result, vulnerabilities can remain unaddressed for an unnecessarily long time.

Patch Management brings structure to that process. You centrally determine which updates are rolled out and when, which updates are tested first, and when an installation becomes mandatory.

A Centralized Policy for Every Update

Effective patch management isn’t about installing every update as quickly as possible. It’s about striking the right balance between security, stability, and the way employees work.

We help set up patch management for macOS, iOS, iPadOS, and third-party applications. Together, we determine which software falls under your patch policy and set up processes for testing, phased rollouts, and mandatory updates.

Manage the patching process yourself or outsource it. Your IT team remains in control, or Root3 can handle patch management and follow-up through Managed Services or Maintenance.

The Benefits of Patch Management

Up-to-date software, less manual work, and better insight into vulnerabilities.
Quick patching
Critical security updates are given the appropriate priority so that known vulnerabilities do not remain unpatched for an unnecessarily long time.
Controlled rollout
Test updates first where necessary, and then roll them out in phases. This way, you can maintain a balance between security and stability.
Automated Updates
Automatic updates for operating systems and applications, minimizing the need for manual actions by IT staff.
User-friendly
Employees receive clear notifications about necessary updates and know when action is required.
Compliance & Reporting
Reports show which devices and applications have been updated and where further attention is needed.
Self-managed or managed
Manage the patching process yourself, or enable Root3 for support through Managed Services or Maintenance.

Prevent vulnerabilities caused by overdue updates.

Automate your updates, prioritize critical patches, and keep a constant eye on what still needs attention.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I continue to handle patch management on my own? Yes. You can manage the selected tools yourselves and determine how updates are tested, scheduled, and rolled out. Root3 can assist with the setup or handle patch management, either partially or entirely.
Can updates be installed automatically? Yes, depending on the operating system, the application, and the chosen tools. You can decide which updates are applied automatically and which ones require a test or rollout process first.
What happens if an employee keeps putting off an update? You can set a specific time frame during which the employee can perform the update on their own. After that, depending on the tools and policies in place, the update may be made mandatory.
Does Patch Management also work for software outside the App Store? Yes. Applications installed through other distribution channels can also be part of patch management. The options available depend on the application and the tools used.
How do you prevent an update from causing problems? By first testing updates with a limited group of users where necessary and then rolling them out in phases. This allows potential issues to be identified sooner, before an update is rolled out organization-wide.
Does Patch Management Help with NIS2 or ISO 27001? Patch management can be part of a broader security strategy and help manage known vulnerabilities. It also helps provide insight into the status of updates. Patch management alone does not mean that an organization automatically complies with NIS2, ISO 27001, or other regulations.
